Vi estos días otras dos: Mi vecino Totoro y Porco Rosso. Ambas -sobre todo la primera- excelentes.

Totoro… es otra cosa. Todo el clima que sin saberlo yo le pedía a los dibujos de Disney, lo vengo a encontrar acá. Alegría sin nubes; belleza pura. La niñez como debería ser en el paraíso (y que nuestro recuerdo trata de pintar en base a nuestra infancia real). Creo que nunca había sentido tantas de ganas de ver una película una y otra vez. La crítica de R. Ebert está muy bien (el tipo la pone en su sección «Grandes películas» de la historia del cine).

Bueno. Sospeché mal. Es muy buena, y la disfruté mucho. Muy lindos dibujos -para variar-, trama sin altibajos, gotitas de humor tan sencillo como efectivo (el pirata que quiere sacarse la foto sólo con la chica!) y buen gusto siempre, en todos los detalles. Tampoco aquí hay buenos ni malos; otra constante de Miyasaki, al parecer.

Esta crítica también es recomendable. Y ésta otra de Totoro ; su comentario de «cómo habría sido Totoro si la hubiese filmado un estudio americano», es muy certero y muy gracioso :
• The King Totoro would speak with the wisecracking voice of Ray Romano or Eddie Murphy. John Goodman would play the cat-bus. Celine Dion would contribute a pop song about the wonders of trees.
• Mom and Dad would not believe in Totoro or the power of magic, opening the door for a series of gags where Totoro and his wacky sidekicks would get Satsuki in trouble and then turn invisible.
• Kanta, the boy next door, would have a bigger part, and probably have to rescue the girls from an Evil Forest Monster (played by James Woods).
• Mother’s illness would be cured by magic—or she would be dead before the story begins. Dad would be a mechanic and build crazy inventions.
• This movie would be the first volley in a direct-to-video series. In the first sequel, Totoro would move to the big city and be recruited by an NBA team. But at the end of every video installment, everyone would learn a valuable lesson about the meaning of family.
